A Simple Sales Strategy: Turn Customers Into Raving Fans!

What's next after someone becomes your client? What's next is to
deliver on what you said you would, and more! As they say,
"Under promise and over deliver." People expect you to deliver
results. Surprise them by also going the extra mile over and
over again.

As soon as you get a new client, thank them for doing business
with you. Send them a thank you note, an extra report or
something of value. Let them know that you appreciate their
business and show them you care about them. One small act that
shows how much you value your new client can create a client for
life.

The formula for having your clients turn into raving fans is:
good product + great service. Interestingly enough a good
product + bad service gives you unhappy customers no matter how
good your product is.

A study has shown that it takes 16 times the effort to get a new
client as it does to sell to an existing one. So treasure them
all and treat them like a $1m client.

When you have satisfied clients, they will buy more and more
from you. They have already experienced you, your
services/products and your quality of service so the decision
process is so much easier for them.

When you have satisfied clients, they will become your walking,
talking sales force. They believe in you and your
services/products so much so that they voluntarily tell others
about you.

Develop relationships with your clients so you can continue to
discover what they want. Then provide offers that deliver what
they want so they choose to do more business with you. This is
another huge key to your success. It is the key to maximizing
the lifetime value of a customer.

From time to time, do a customer satisfaction survey. Test to
see if your clients are happy with your service and ask them for
suggestions for improvement. Then act on these suggestions.

If you do ever have a dissatisfied client, you have an
opportunity. People who are unhappy will tell about 10 other
people and then those 10 people tell about 5 people and so on
and so forth. Get the picture? So, when you have a dissatisfied
client, you have an opportunity to get them to experience your
excellent service and to build an even stronger relationship
with you. So sort their problem out quickly and they will then
tell others good things about you.

Treasure your clients and they will treasure you. Treasure your
clients and more clients will be attracted to you, that is how
it works!

Alleviate Your Internet Marketing Stress

Do you have a detailed plan in place to market your
home-based Internet business? How about a strategy that
will work for your budget? Do you know where to start?

If not, read on. This article is an Internet marketing
resource that you will find invaluable. It is a free
Internet marketing guide.

Five questions you need to ask yourself:
1) Who is my target customer?
2) What is my budget?
3) Where will I find my customers?
4) Why do they need my product or service?
5) How quickly do I want results?

Your budget will probably be the most significant factor in
determining your Internet marketing program.

Organic marketing is definitely the cheapest. Organic
marketing is getting people to your site to purchase
without paying for advertising. It is; however, more time
consuming and takes longer to see results. This strategy
will be discussed in more detail in my next article.

If your budget is more extensive, you can obtain results
quickly through strategies, such as Pay Per Click, which
will also be discussed at a later date.

Get your groundwork done first.whatever way you choose to
market! First, determine the customer you want to attract.
Who are they? Focusing on a certain "kind" of customer
will greatly improve your chances of exposing them to your
business. You have to know where your potential customer
is looking so you can be there too.staring them in the face.

Next, give thought to why someone would require your
service or product. That will give you clues about what
keywords they will enter and what sites they hang out on.
Then you can decide, for example, if you'd like to
advertise on those sites. You can also make your website
keyword rich.

Whoever puts forth the most effort in planning and
executing their Internet marketing campaign WINS! It's
just that easy. The businesses that are most visible get
the most paying customers. We witness the same concept
with successful "brick and mortar" businesses who are
marketing geniuses. Why would an Internet business be any
different?

Okie dokie. The basics. What exactly is an email sign-off?

Your sign-off is the part of your email -- with your name,
company, phone, etc. -- that comes right after your text
message.

To be honest, I find most email sign-offs pretty boring.
(And I find some of them pretty annoying!)

Most often, however, I see lost opportunities.

In this article, we'll be taking a look at how just a few
simple changes to your email signature can make a BIG
difference to your business.

1 - NO SIGN-OFF, NO RESULTS

I think it's incredible -- since most of the emails I get
are from coaches and small business owners -- but I get at
least a couple of emails a day with absolutely no sign-off
at all.

That's right. No company name, and no contact information.
Emails sometimes even arrive without the sender's last
name!

This is not only a waste of a perfect marketing
opportunity, it's pretty bad business. There's nothing
professional about a business email without basic business
information.


2 - START WITH THE BASICS

Every email you send out should include basic information
about you and your company:

* Your name (first and last)
* Company Name
* Business phone
* Email address

Tip: Why include your email address here, when the reader
can see it at the top of the email? Simply because it's
easier for the reader to have all of your contact
information in one place -- especially if he decides to add
it to his address book or contact manager.

A basic email signature might also include:

* Your title or business designation
* Company logo and/or tag line
* Your photo
* Fax and/or cell phone number
* Website address

Tip: If you include any graphics (photo, logo, etc.) be
sure to use small files that will download quickly and
easily for the reader. (For me, any file I need to wait
for falls into that 'annoying' category.)


3 - WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

Here's the deal. Your email signature is the perfect place
to include information about your business, your products,
or your services. Why?

* You're writing -- or responding -- to someone you know is
already interested in you, or your business
* You know your message will be seen
* Email is a natural place to describe something new, or
interesting
* It's totally non-intrusive
* It's easy
* It doesn't cost you a thing!

So, take a minute to think about something about your
business -- or your products -- that you'd like to tell
people about. For example:

* Your upcoming workshop, seminar, or teleclasses
* Your book or audio product
* An improvement you've made to an existing product or
program
* New business location, or expanded business hours
* Your new website

Choose one of these ideas now, and take it through the next
few steps in this article....


4 - WHAT'S IN IT FOR THEM?

To illustrate, let's say you decide to use your email
signature to tell people about an upcoming teleclass.

I can imagine several answers to the question, "What's in
it for you?"

* new business leads
* 'live' interaction with solid business prospects
* revenue (if you're charging a fee for the class)
* opportunity to introduce participants to your other
products and services
* getting your name out into the business community
* opportunity to shine as an expert in your field
* word-of-mouth advertising from your teleclass participants

If you'd like your email signature to attract new clients
-- and sales -- be sure to focus on "What's in it for THEM?"

Going back to the teleclass example, what will participants
get out of it? (information, fun, interaction, difficult
to find facts or tips, a plan/strategy, etc.)

What problem do they have that this teleclass will help
resolve? Where are they struggling? (stress, frustration,
ill health, isolation, financial troubles, need more
clients, lack of confidence, etc.)

Jot down at least two benefits your reader will get from
your product. And then write a sentence or two that simply
tells them this -- and shows them how to order or sign up
(live links, please!).

Add your contact information, and you've got a powerful
email signature!

Tip: To improve your results, add an offer -- or a reason
for the reader to take action NOW.


5 - SHORT AND SWEET

Remember I said that email signatures are totally
non-intrusive? I was describing clear, concise,
well-written email signatures; yours, I hope!

Take a quick peek into your email "Sent" box. If you're
anything like me, most emails you send out are 10-20 lines
long. Many are probably only 2-3 lines.

Don't write an email signature that's longer than most of
your emails!

I'm a member of several email list-serves (coaching,
writing, publishing) and not suprisingly, every one of them
has rules about email signatures. The maximum 'suggested'
length is between 7-8 lines.

Use this length recommendation as a guide when developing
yours. Think 3-4 lines to get your marketing message
across, and 3-4 lines for your basic contact information.
That's all you need.


6 - THE TECH OF IT ALL

Okay, one question that often pops up is whether to use a
"text only" or "html" email sign-off (often called
'signature' in your mail program).

In my mind, that totally depends on your audience.

If you work with a fairly tech-savvy group of people, and
would like to add the graphics and formatting that are
possible with html, go for it. For some audiences,
however, html is a mistake -- since it'll show up as an
unreadable mass of code if they don't have the software to
decode it properly.

Not sure? Stick to simple text email messages and
sign-offs.

In the past couple of years, email signatures have become
incredibly simple to do (technically, that is!). Here's
where to find basic instructions from two of the most
popular email programs:

Outlook: Tools > Options > Mail Format > Signatures
AOL: Mail > Set Mail Signatures > Create

For other mail programs, check the Help menu, or write to
customer support. These days, virtually every ISP will has
a way for you to add an email signature -- with or without
a marketing message -- quickly and easily.

Tip: Take a minute or two right now to write a new email
signature, and get it into your email account.


7 - KEEP 'EM FRESH

Ever have this experience: You drive past the same
billboard day after day, and after while, you literally
don't see it at all?

The same holds true for email sign-offs. After several
emails with the same sign-off, your readers won't 'see' it
any more. So write several sign-offs -- for the same
product, or for different products or programs -- to keep
them fresh and new.

Each time you write one, ask yourself:

* Does it meet your marketing objective? (What's in it for
you?)
* Does it offer a real benefit to your reader? (What's in
it for them?)
* Is it clear and concise? (7-8 lines, including your
contact information)

Use these three questions as guidelines, and you'll be well
on your way to creating email sign-offs that'll attract
customers -- and increase sales.

3 Elements to a Deal-Sealing Classified Ad

Have you ever wondered why your perfectly fine classified
ad fails to attract the attention you desire? There should
be dozens-no, hundreds-of perspective buyers swamping
your e-mail inbox with offers. After all, you are offering
a mint baseball card, a vintage coat, pristine used car,
those wholesale-priced sporting goods, and whatever other
attractive items are in your inventory. Instead, you only
have a slow trickle of questions, a handful of sales. What
gives? More than likely, your sales are slow because you
have not mastered the three techniques of writing a
classic classified ad.

Of course, give yourself credit for recognizing one
important facet of today's selling world. You decided
to sell your stuff at an online classified site. As anybody
in the business knows, online classified ads get you more
privacy, a broader selection of buyers, and a wealth of
tools to help you keep tabs on your transactions. When
compared to a newspaper, cyberspace is also a wee bit
more spacious. There are billions of pages on the Web,
and only a few dozen in your typical neighborhood rag.
For you, that means a lot more space for your ad to say
the least.

With that space, however, comes great responsibility-and
great potential. The extra room gives you the freedom to
include as much product description and sale copy as you
want. You can't just slap together a whole bunch of
information, though. You need to use the three special ad
writing techniques that will attract buyers and seal the
deal: attention, interest, and action.

Attention. Make sure the buyer stops at your ad instead
of the thousands upon thousands of others out there in
cyberspace. Your ad's title is the first lure to grab his
or her attention, and the first component of a catchy
title is the item's best feature, whether it's the price,
the item's rarity, or its popularity. Next, be sure the
title includes keywords or other synonyms for your item
that a buyer might use in a search. For instance, a buyer
could search for "automobile" instead of "car," "pullover"
instead of "sweater."

Interest. Once you have the buyer's attention, hook them
with details. There is a direct relationship between the
amount of information you provide and the number of sales
you'll make. So describe the item as completely as
possible-size, color, material, designer, model-and
provide a clear, digital photo to finish the job where your
words leave off. Even offer your prospective customer the
item's history if possible.

Also, try to list as many possible benefits that your sales
item could offer the buyer. Come up with some that the
buyer probably wouldn't think of on his or her own. And
zone in on specific benefits. Use what you already know
about your target. For instance, if you were selling a car,
you know that whoever is looking at your ad is in need of
a vehicle. If your car is compact, perhaps the buyer is in
search of great gas mileage. Or perhaps it's power he or
she wants if your car is a sports model.

Action. Finish your ad strongly. Don't just suggest to the
buyer that you offer a great deal. Tell them it's a
fantastic offer that they can't pass up. Use phrases
like "Call me now before someone else does" or "Buy now,
this opportunity won't last long." Be cordial while you're
pressing the issue, of course. Thank them for reading your
ad and make sure they know you appreciate their business.

Most importantly, your customers will also value your
honesty throughout the whole ad. So whether it's the
attention, interest, or action you're shooting for, never
lie or exaggerate. Go so far to include any defects if your
product is not in mint shape. Your honesty will build
trust, and trust above all else makes an ad work. What's
more, it makes for repeat customers.

Remember, if you use all three of these elements-or four
if you include honesty. When you're finished with it, it
should read something like the two examples below.

Example 1:

Discover the beauty of a Forest Hill Home
2500 sq. ft. home, 4 bedroom, 3 baths, double garage,
upgraded kitchen, 12 ft. ceilings. This open concept house
is situated in a historical landmark district of Rhode
Island. It's a wonderful neighborhood to raise your
family, with nearby schools and amenities.

Example 2:

Looking for an inexpensive used car that drives well?
only $4,950. 2003 Honda Civic, Limited Edition,
65,000 miles, manual transmission, CD, AM/FM radio,

will save you $$$ on high gasoline prices.

What Is Marketing?

To too many people marketing equates to one of two things:

- Selling: with all that entails such as the dreaded
double-glazing or financial salesman.
- Advertising: with all that entails such as the slick young
creative and smarmy account person.

Of course marketing also encompasses these functions - though,
hopefully not as in the stereotypes that are in so many minds -
but marketing is about a great deal more than just selling or
advertising.

Marketing is the wide range of activities involved in making
sure that you're continuing to meet the needs of your customers
and are getting value in return.

It includes:

- Finding out what groups of potential customers or markets exist
- What groups of customers you prefer to serve - your target markets
- What their needs are, what products or services you might
develop to meet their needs
- How customers might prefer to use the products and services
- Who competitors are and what they are doing
- What pricing mechanism and approach you should use
- How each of target markets might choose to access the product, etc.
- How much customers / clients might be willing pay and how.
- How to design and describe the product such that
customers/clients will buy from the organization, rather than
from its competitors - the unique value proposition
- How the company or products should be identified -
personality -to be most identifiable i.e. naming and branding
- Ongoing campaigns, which can include advertising, public
relations, sales and customer service

All of this was characterised many years ago by Dr. Philip
Kotler as the 4Ps:

- Product - making what customers want
- Place - delivering it via the channels they want to use
- Promotion - making them aware of its existence
- Price - making it available at a price they will pay

At the end of the day marketing is really about not losing
sight of the basics. You have to be focused on what customers
require as the outcome and then find out how to get there by
meeting customers needs over a period of time, in a socially
responsible way, whilst making a reasonable profit.

Marketing is really a philosophy and attitude about customer
focus that has to run through the whole organisation. If you
get that you get marketing.

Easy, of course to say.

Frequently not so easy to achieve!
